DEBUT ALBUM - BREATHE AGAIN

Breathe again is a celebration of all of my musical and emotional selves. This album is a welcome home to all of the feelings in me that have been side-lined or dismissed over the course of my life. When I set out to write these songs, my intention was to give voice to the parts of me that have not been allowed to speak – to embody and express the exiled parts of myself.

Using song, I wanted to turn my experiences into empowering words and melodies that resonate with others. I felt that I needed to articulate my unique circumstances in a way that speaks to universal experiences of the human condition – I wanted to connect with other peoples’ stories and make them feel understood, seen and heard, just as I was seeking to make sense of my own experiences.

Supported by Arts Council England, this project was realised in collaboration with the Brothers Koren (www.brotherskoren.com); two wonderful men who held space for me to delve deep into all of the corners of my inner self. Isaac and Thorald (the Brothers Koren) enabled me to say ‘yes’ to my voice, to say ‘yes’ to the experience of singing. They showed me what singing is and what it isn’t: an expression, an experience, not a technique to learn, not even necessarily a performance. It’s a process of tuning into the body and allowing your inner state to become manifest in sound. During my work with them, I was able to finally find and embody my artistic voice and uncover my unique style by combining the sounds that inspire me from my life experiences and musical influences.
